MRHS Specific Running Start Info

• Be at least 15 by the 1st day of the college quarter
• Junior or Senior status enrolled in a public school
• Placement into ENG101 - determined by the College Placement Office 
  • Math placement is not a requirement to participate in Running Start.

Steps to enroll include:

1.  Apply for admission at the college. 
2.  Activate your college account (CTC Link Account)
3.  Verify English Placement - you need to place into English 101 to be eligible for Running Start.
4.  Attend a MRHS Group Orientation - we have started doing group meetings to ensure that the same information reaches everyone. These are typically offered in the Spring for the upcoming school year. You must provide proof of acceptance into the college AND proof of placement into English 101 prior to this orientation.
5.  Submit the Packet - Each college has a different Application and way to submit the needed information. Your submission will include the Program Application, Signed Enrollment Verification Form, Unofficial High School Transcript, and Evidence of Placement into English 101. Highline College uses an online submission system for students to submit all components of their new student packet. 
6.  Orientation at the college - This is where you learn more details from the college about things like how to register and be a successful college student.
7.  Register for classes at the college
8.  Pay fees at the college

Steps to Enroll Document

To continue with Running Start after you have completed the steps to enroll initially you must complete needed paperwork (EVF) and submit it prior to each quarter at the college.

Agreements are made between the student, MRHS, and the Running Start Program. Students have the primary responsibility for following these agreements. The Running Start Program Agreements are found on the bottom of the Enrollment Verification Form. The MRHS Agreements can be downloaded from the button below.

Here are some of our Frequently Asked Questions.

• How do credits work from Running Start?
  • 5 college credits = 1 high school credit
  • This can have a major impact on student GPAs (both at the High School and at the College)
  • MRHS can not adjust course grades from the college.

 

• How does transportation work?
  • Students are responsible for their own transportation.

 

• Can Running Start Students do sports?
  • Running Start Students can still participate in High School Sports and Activities. Students need to register through Family ID for most participation.
  • Running Start Students can not participate in College Sports.

 

• What's an EVF?
  • EVF stands for Enrollment Verification Form. This form needs to be completed prior to course registration for every quarter.

 

• What paperwork do I need?
  • For new Running Start Applicants, please follow the "Steps to Enrollment" guidelines in the above tabs.
  • Returning Running Start Students need to ensure that their EVF is complete prior to each quarter to be able to register for classes.
