Superintendent Duran's Message to Highline Families

Superintendent Duran's Message to Highline Families

Greetings, Highline Families.

I want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate the challenges caused by the cyber incident. I recognize how disruptive this situation is for all of us—especially our students and families.

Our teachers and staff are doing their absolute best not having access to the internet, district-provided devices, and other digital tools they rely on to support student learning. Our educators are finding creative and innovative ways to engage students in the classroom. Please show them grace during this time and know we remain committed to supporting your child’s learning.

As always, we stand by the Highline Promise: to know every student by name, strength and need, and ensure they graduate prepared for the future they choose. Despite the challenges we face, we are focused on ensuring every student continues to receive the support they need to thrive.

The investigation into the cyber incident is ongoing. I understand you may have a lot of questions about what happened. Here is what I can share: an unauthorized actor gained access to certain systems on our network. Our technology team acted quickly, limiting unauthorized activity and disconnecting the network from internet access to protect our systems. This has, however, impacted access to certain systems and tools necessary for school operations.

I want to be clear—this incident affected our digital network, not the physical safety of our facilities. All student safety measures remain fully in place.

We are working hard to restore internet and access to critical systems as quickly and securely as possible. We do not have a timeline for when these services will be back online. Additionally, we ask that students refrain from using their school-issued devices until further notice.

I appreciate your patience and support. Together, we will overcome these challenges and continue to prioritize what matters most: our students and their future.

Living the Promise,

Ivan Duran, Ed.D.
