First 15 Schools by Summer 2019

Better classroom locks are on the way. Voters funded the 2016 school bond, which set aside money for improved security, including safer interior and exterior door locks.

New electronic locks and hardware will be installed at 15 schools by mid-summer. The school board approved awarding a $2.98 million contract to Long Building Technologies on March 6.

The process to upgrade 16 additional schools with automatic lock-down technology will start this spring with another bid and contract approval process.

When complete, the new technology and hardware will make it possible for site or district security staff to close and lock all classroom doors on campus from a central location. Classroom doors can still be opened from within, but teachers will no longer need to open their door in order to lock them manually.
